Legal Directives Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 10, 2026

Legal Directives, LLC ("Legal Directives," "we," "us," or "our") provides online storage and delivery of healthcare directives and related emergency information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to legaldirectives.com, our member portal, wallet cards and digital wallet passes, and our email and text message (SMS) programs (together, the "Services").

This Privacy Policy is a separate document from our Terms of Service. Questions: support@legaldirectives.com.

1. Information we collect
  • Contact information: name, mailing address, email address, and cell and home phone numbers.
  • Identity verification information: date of birth and mother's maiden name (last name only), used to confirm your identity when you update your information.
  • Account information: login credentials, membership term, membership status, and renewal dates.
  • Documents you upload or provide to us for storage: living wills, healthcare powers of attorney, HIPAA authorizations, advance directives, and similar documents.
  • Emergency information you choose to add: allergies and medical conditions.
  • Emergency contacts: name, relationship, and cell and home phone numbers for up to three contacts.
  • Physician information: your primary care physician's name, practice name, and phone and fax numbers, and whether you want a copy of your documents faxed to your physician.
  • Enrollment records: your signature and the date you signed your enrollment certification.
  • SMS consent records: if you opt in to text messages, the date, time, and method of your consent.
  • Payment information: processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Usage information: device, browser, and pages visited, collected through cookies and analytics tools.
  • Information about other people: when you list emergency contacts or physicians, you confirm you have their permission to share their details with us.
2. How we use information
  • To create and manage your membership, and to deliver your documents and emergency information to you and to anyone who provides your member number and PIN, such as family members, physicians, or emergency medical personnel.
  • To fax a copy of your documents to your primary care physician, if you ask us to.
  • To verify your identity, using your date of birth and mother's maiden name, before making changes to your information.
  • To send account and service emails, such as renewal notices, document confirmations, and security alerts.
  • To text you a link to your digital wallet pass when you request it and opt in (see section 3).
  • To provide customer support and respond to requests.
  • To improve and secure the Services and comply with the law.
3. Text messaging (SMS) and mobile information

How you opt in. We send text messages only to members who request their digital wallet pass on their member portal page. To do so, you confirm the mobile number on your Personal Information page (or add one there if none is on file) and check the optional SMS consent box on your member portal page, then choose Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. We then text you the link. The box is unchecked by default and is separate from accepting our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy. You cannot opt in by text message. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchasing or using the Services.

What we collect. When you opt in, we collect your mobile phone number and a record of your consent (date, time, and method).

How we use it. We use your mobile number only to send the message you requested: a link that lets you add your Legal Directives wallet pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, plus related access information, as described in our Terms of Service. We also use it to honor opt-out and help requests. Message frequency varies and is limited to messages necessary to deliver or facilitate access to your requested digital wallet pass. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages. Message and data rates may apply.

We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in information or consent to third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. SMS opt-in data and consent are excluded from the information-sharing categories described in this Privacy Policy and will not be shared with third parties.

People you list. We do not text emergency contacts or physicians you list in your account.

Opting out and help. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for help, or contact support@legaldirectives.com or (866) 363-4894.

4. How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only:

  • With anyone who provides your member number and PIN, by phone, through the access link, or from your wallet card. We do not verify the identity of the person making the request, so keep your member number and PIN secure and share them only with people you trust.
  • With your primary care physician, by fax, if you ask us to send them a copy of your documents.
  • With the law firm or advisor that enrolled you, if you joined through one, limited to your membership status and the documents you choose to share.
  • With service providers who host our systems, process payments, or deliver messages for us, under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing those services.
  • When required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the safety of a member or the public.
  • In connection with a merger or sale of our business, subject to this Policy.

We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in information or consent to third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. SMS opt-in data and consent are excluded from the information-sharing categories described above and will not be shared with third parties.

5. Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and tools such as Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand site use and show relevant ads. These tools collect information about your browsing, not the contents of your documents or account. You can opt out through your browser settings or the ad provider's opt-out page.

6. Security and retention

We protect your information with encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and you are responsible for safeguarding your wallet card, digital wallet pass, and login credentials. If your membership ends and is not renewed, we may retain your account information and stored documents for a limited period before permanently deleting them, as described in our Terms of Service, except records we must keep by law.

7. Your choices
  • Update your information in the member portal.
  • Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email.
  • Stop text messages by replying STOP.
  • Ask us to access, correct, or delete your information by emailing support@legaldirectives.com.
8. Children

We do not collect information directly from children. Accounts are opened only by adults 18 and older. A parent or legal guardian may sign up for a membership on behalf of a minor, and in doing so provides the minor's documents and emergency information and consents to our handling of it under this Policy. All account communications, including text messages, go to the parent or guardian, never to the minor. A parent or guardian may review, update, or delete a minor's information at any time by contacting support@legaldirectives.com.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy. We will post the new version on this page and change the "Last Updated" date, and changes take effect when posted. The version posted on this page is the official version of this Policy.
